1. The Nature of Rheumatoid Disease by System and Nomenclature
a. Rheumatoid Disease is Systemic
The Arthritis Trust of America considers the nearly 100 rheumatoid diseases — including Rheumatoid Arthritis — systemic diseases. Since the disease can affect any organ or system in the body, manifestation of symptoms produced give rise to the various name classifications often misconstrued as totally separate diseases. Breaking physician health specialties into different practices according to parts of the body affected lends even more credence to the illusion that separate and distinct diseases are presented.
According to the late Roger Wyburn-Mason, M.D., Ph.D., one of founders of the Arthritis Trust of America (formerly aka Rheumatoid Disease Foundation),the history of tuberculosis demonstrates how misleading can be the identifying of diseases by name according to the body part affected. Prior to the discovery of the tubercle bacillus there were 100 different diseases named depending upon the body part affected. After identification of the tubercle bacillus, all of these different names collapsed into one — tuberculosis! — although now it is called TB of the bone, TB of the lung, TB of the skin, and so on. We believe that this is what has happened to the disease known as Rheumatoid Disease and, specifically, to the classification of Rheumatoid Arthritis. There are 100 apparently different diseases, each with its own distinct and misleading name. By knowing that these 100 diseases are related and that they are systemic, and may manifest with differing symptoms in any organ or system, we can collapse all those names into one which we now call “Rheumatoid Disease.”
Further, the classifications of Still’s disease — including rheumatoid arthritis of the embryo — juvenile arthritis and adult rheumatoid arthritis is considered an artificial and arbitrary classification which emphasizes age differences while ignoring the systemic nature of the disease.
b. A One-to-One Correspondence May Not Exist Between Causation and Symptoms
Different bodily symptoms are often used to describe various disease conditions but may often be forms of systemic Rheumatoid Disease. Rheumatoid Disease can affect any part of the body!
The Arthritis Trust of America/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation cautions, “Do not be misled by the other extreme, however.” While any of the bodily systems can stem from Rheumatoid Disease causations, other sources can create some of the same symptoms! A good example is infestation by Candidiasis, a yeast/fungus infestation. Perhaps 50% or more of Rheumatoid Disease victims suffer from systemic overgrowth of Candida albicans or similar organisms-of-opportunity, often due to sustained stress, overuse of antibiotics and/or sustained use of birth control tablets, or, if arthritic, most likely cortisone administration. Although Candidiasis can present, among other symptoms, similar symptoms presented by Rheumatoid Disease, true Rheumatoid Disease will not necessarily be Candidiasis infestation. Clearing up Candidiasis and/or Food Allergies might very well clear up Rheumatoid Disease symptoms, but not necessarily the other way around; that is, solving Rheumatoid Disease will not necessarily clean out Candidiasis or solve food allergy problems.
If one does clean out Candidiasis and the victim recovers from apparent arthritic symptoms, the Arthritis Trust/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation asks, “Shall we say that the arthritic suffered from Rheumatoid Disease or Candidiasis — or what? When the same set of symptoms derive from two causations, the classification name (descriptor) given to the disease is often misleading in that it doesn’t easily lend itself to workable treatments.:
Similarly, Food Allergies can present with Rheumatoid Disease symptoms, but Rheumatoid Disease symptoms do not necessarily present with Food Allergy symptoms.
Rheumatoid Disease may cause Headaches, but Headaches may be caused by a multiplicity of other factors.
Rheumatoid Disease may cause plugging up of arteries, or other heart problems, but these conditions can be caused by other causative factors.
In the view of the Arthritis Trust/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation, following th lead of Roger Wyburn-Mason, M.D., Ph.D., in his Causations of Rheumatoid Disease and Many Human Cancers, virtually none of the disease names and their symptoms exist in isolation. That is, for example, a patient may have 90% of the symptoms defined by Rheumatoid Arthritis, 7% of the symptoms defined by Psoriasis, and 3% of the symptoms defined by SjÖgren’s Syndrome.
Additionally, the so-called Rheumatoid Disease factors occur in a broad range of diseases: According to Textbook of Internal Medicine, “latex agglutination tests are positive in approximately 40% of patients with subacute bacterial endocarditis,50% of patients with nodular pulmonary silicosis, 60% of patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, 13% of patients with active tuberculosis, most patients with SjÖgren’s syndrome, virtually all patients with essential mixed cryoglobuylinemia. Rheumatoid factors are also observed transiently in patients with a variety of viral infections, including mononucleosis.”
And so on — throughout a multiplicity of symptoms grading into one another and affecting simultaneously many bodily parts!
c. Two Traditional Accepted Medical Hypotheses
Internal medicine textbooks often accept two hypothesis for the possible causation of Rheumatoid Arthritis, and related Rheumatoid Diseases. These are:
Hypothesis 1. There is something wrong with the immune system. In this view, one must search for and try out various “immunomodulators,” drugs that will shake up or somehow change the immune system.
Hypothesis 2. The body is responding to a foreign invader. There is an antigen/allergen (foreign protein) inside the body that the body has produced an antibody to protect against. In this view one must search out the various microorganisms that produce the antibodies and/or allergens that the body is defending against.
While perhaps there is some truth in both ideas, only acceptance of the second hypothesis has produced genuine, long-lasting remissions and cures of those afflicted via treatments developed by many physicians over the years, including the works of Thomas McPherson Brown, M.D. and Roger Wyburn-Mason, M.D., Ph.D. In support of this second hypothesis is the fact that accompanying the killing of the presumed causative organism inside the human body brings about a Herxheimer reaction. Dr. Paul Pybus demonstrated a strong direct correlation between achieving wellness and intensity of the observed Herxheimer.
Meanwhile the first hypothesis has only produced a constant stream of drugs — immune modulators — that have in the long run damaged the arthritic victim further. (See “side-effects” of any of the so-called “Rheumatoid Disease Moderating drugs provided as a “standard-of-treatment.”
The Arthritis Trust/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation teaches that, generally, except in rare instances, there is nothing wrong with the patient’s immune system. It is performing it’s allotted function. The problem lies with the fact that the immune system is overwhelmed, just as too many straws on a camel’s back will weigh it down. Remove those straws and the camel will rise again, just as the patient’s body will repair itself again.
Hypothesis number one, above, teaches that the immune system has gone awry — the immune system is attacking one’s own tissues.. As taught by Professor Roger Wyburn-Mason, the medical history of syphilis demonstrates that syphilis could have been considered as a perfect example of an “auto-immune” disease — until the discovery of the syphilis spirochete! Of course, it is now accepted as being an infectious disease. But, had the syphilis spirochete not been discovered, think of the billions of dollars that might have been spent trying to “modulate” the presumed “defective” immune system!
With the above thoughts in mind, and by means of some subjective judgment based on clinical experiences of various medical doctors, the following classification of “arthritides” has been prepared so that you can know the nature of, and extent of, what the Arthritis Trust of America/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation calls “Rheumatoid Disease.” Remember that “same symptoms as” does not necessarily mean “same cause as.”

e. Successful Treatment Regimens
According to reports of those physicians allied with the Arthritis Trust/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation (past and present), treatment and probable cures of Rheumatoid Disease, therefore, include investigating and treating multiple causations, including, but not limited to, the following: proper nutrition (also see capcaicinoids), anti-candida treatment, anti-food allergy treatment, anti-microorganism treatment (Roger Wyburn-Mason, M.D., Ph.D., Thomas McPherson Brown, M.D.), bodily detoxification (Allergies, Hubbardian Sauna) including mercury and other metals (Chelation Therapy; also see the book Uniformed Consent by Hal Huggins) as well as pesticides and herbicides (Allergies, Hubbardian Sauna) , root canal cleansing (Root Canal, Peridontal) , hormonal rebalancing (Thyroid), and other factors as determined individually.
f. Differing Ways of Viewing Arthritis
We can view arthritis in several ways, namely:
(1.) Table of Arthritides Symptoms and Their Classifications
(a.) Table I: Collagen Tissue Diseases (Rheumatoid Diseases) and Associated Rheumatic Disease Conditions
(c.) Table III: Osteoarthritis and Degenerative joint Diseases
(d.) Table IV: Rheumatic Diseases Known or Suspected to be Biochemical or Endocrine Abnormalities
(e.) Table V: Other Rheumatic Diseases
(2.) Rheumatoid Disease: Classified by Symptom
(3.) Rheumatic Diseases and Microorganisms: Classified by Symptom
(4.) Osteoarthritis and Degenerative Diseases: Classified by Symptom
(5.) Rheumatic Disease Known or Suspected to Be Biochemical or Endocrine Abnormalities.
b. Successes
Some of the Arthritis Trust of America/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation physicians have routinely cured 80% of their rheumatoid patient population. Roger Wyburn-Mason, M.D., Ph.D. was curing rheumatoid disease patients from around the world in the late 1960s. (See Causation of Rheumatoid Disease and Many Human Cancers at http://www.arthritistrust.com/Books/CausationBookNew/CausationCompleteSection1.pdf.)
Free books and articles explaining recommended treatments in detail and physician referrals are provided at http://www.arthritistrust.org.
h. Recommended Treatment Regimens
How Do I Cure My Arthritis describes the principles of recommended treatment regimens as learned by Arthritis Trust/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation referral physicians beginning with Professor Roger Wyburn-Mason’s research in the 1960s and extending to the present day.
Although the Arthritis Trust of America/Rheumatoid Disease Foundation is striving to bring together under one roof all the various treatment regimens necessary to maximize the probability of full remission from rheumatoid disease, no single clinic or referral physician yet combines necessary medical and dental regimens. Some of the referred physicians offer a sufficient variety of treatments to treat and cure 70-80% of their patients, but other patients may have to travel from one location to another within or outside of their state to be assured of proper medical guidance.
